Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month

Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month
Posted on 10/03/2023
Manatee County Animal Welfare (MCAW) is celebrating Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month by waiving adoption fees throughout October for all dogs—which, heading into the month, numbered approximately 98 adoptable dogs at the Palmetto location and 45 dogs at the Bishop Animal Shelter.

Some of these dogs will have a pretty special opportunity to shine since MCAW is one of 39 animal shelters across the country that will be participating in National Playgroup Rockstars on Saturday, October 7. The event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Palmetto Adoption Center, located at 305 25th Street West.

Based on the simple philosophy of “Every Dog, Every Day, Let Them Play," this one-of-a-kind adoption event by Dogs Playing for Life, is designed to find loving homes for amazing dogs while promoting the importance of playgroups.

For people who already have dogs, the Playgroup Rockstars Adoption Event allows them to see these dogs in action and find that perfect match for their existing pets. For those considering adopting two dogs, the teams on the ground can help find the perfect pair. Visit the Facebook event page

MCAW which consists of three locations—Palmetto Adoption Center (pet adoptions), Cat Town Adoption Center (cat adoptions), and Bishop Animal Shelter (lost and found pets)—is Manatee County’s only open-admission shelter facility, taking in an average of 11 animals per day in 2022.
