Yard Waste & Special Items

• You can use sturdy garbage bags.

BUNDLE IT:

• If you do not wish to use garbage cans or garbage bags, you can put yard waste in bundles no longer than four (4) feet in length.  
• Bundles cannot contain branches larger than six (6) inches in diameter. Any branch larger than six (6) inches in diameter should be cut in half length-wise, tied and bundled.
• Tie bundles with heavy-duty string.

CAN IT:

• Please put yard waste in a 32-gallon garbage cans (not recycling carts). Yard waste should not extend above the top of the can.

Bundles, bags or 32-gallon garbage cans should weigh no more than 50 pounds each.
All properly prepared yard waste is picked up on Wednesday. (Except for holiday make-up schedules)

LANDFILL:

• You may also take your yard waste to the landfill for a fee.

FREE ANNUAL:

• Free Annual / Special Pick-up: Each residential address may utilize one (1) collection per year for solid waste at no additional cost. You may use this service for the collection of more than two (2) large items, too much yard waste to bundle, e-scrap and white goods at the curb. Additional special pick-ups are available for an additional service fee.

• One per year (Oct. 1st - Sept. 30th) per residential address.
• There is a 60 cubic yard limit (L 40' x W 8' x H 6')

There is no limit on the amount of yard waste that can be picked up, as long as it is bundled, bagged or canned and placed out properly. The removal of large amounts of loose yard waste is not part of the residential collection service charge, and is considered an "Extraordinary Service."  If you choose to have the hauler pick up your loose yard waste, please call customer service at 941-792-8811 to arrange a pickup. This Extraordinary Service will be charged on your next utility bill. Residents may also elect to take the debris to the Lena Road Landfill in their own vehicle.

Commercial customers may also request a free estimate for removal, by calling Manatee County Utilities Customer Service at 941-792-8811, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with the exception of holidays. Estimates are done by the franchise hauler supervisor and are based on the yardage scheduled for removal.

Separating Materials at the Curb
Curbside pick-up service includes garbage, recycling and yard waste. Please remember to keep all three separated by appropriate types at the curb. When utilizing you one free annual or large pick-up, all materials need to be properly separated to ensure prompt service.

You may dispose of used motor oil by bringing it to the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection, at the Manatee County Landfill  the 3rd Saturday of each month, from 9:00 - 3:00 or Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. for residential use only. • White goods are large appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, dryers, stoves, water heaters and freezers.
• There is a minimal charge for curbside disposal per appliance or item.
• You may also elect to dispose of your item at the landfill for a fee or utilize your one free annual pick up.
• To schedule pick up of white goods, please call the Utilities Customer Service at 941-792-8811.

Residents may have a rolloff box delivered to the site.  C & D is an open market, and any waste hauler may be used.  Consult your local yellow pages.

Construction debris can be hauled to the Lena Road Landfill for a fee.

Properly prepared residential C&D in bags or 32 gallon cans less than 50 pounds, not protruding from the container, or tied and bundled, less than 4 feet and under 50 pounds will be pick up on your residential garbage collection day.

• Two (2) large items may be placed at the curb with your regular garbage and picked up for free. Please do not exceed two (2) large per collection day.
• BBQ grills without propane tanks, bikes, prepared swing sets, prepared fencing, sinks, bathtubs, toilets, sleeper sofas, box springs and mattresses, mirrors or glass (taped, and six (6) feet or less in length).
• Only two (2) large items per pick-up.

Do NOT dispose of TVs in your trash.  Prior arrangements must be made before placing a TV at the curb. 

Disposal Options:

• Call 941-792-8811 and speak to a customer service representative for details to schedule a special pickup. You may use your one “free annual” option or pay a fee for this service.
• Deliver the TV to the Manatee County Landfill Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the 3rd Saturday of each month for proper disposal at no charge.
• If you are able to unload your TV without assistance from County personnel, you may bring it to the Lena Road Landfill Monday-Saturday 8:00am-5:00pm. Please stop and speak with scalehouse staff; there will be no charge for disposal.
• Check with your local thrift store to see if they are accepting donations of working TVs.

• There is a limit of two (2) tires (with or without rims) per garbage collection day.
• Semi and equipment tires will not be collected curbside.
• You may also bring your tires to the Landfill for a fee or utilize your one (1) free annual pick up per year.
• Please note: Tires are recycled and are collected in a separate truck.
  
  

• Carpet and padding must be rolled & tied in four (4) foot lengths and placed curbside with your garbage for pick-up.
• Carpet & padding can not weigh more than 50 pounds per roll.

• Paint Cans: Latex paint CANNOT be disposed of in the regular garbage because it is a liquid. It is safe to throw away empty/ dry cans. However, if liquid paint remains in the can, please use it, donate it, or dry it out before putting it in the garbage.
