This November Bring Home a Senior Pet from MCAS
Posted on 10/30/2020

November is Adopt-A-Senior-Pet Month, and Manatee County Animal Services (MCAS) is celebrating with waived adoption fees for all senior pets from November 1 -  November 30.  Senior pets are age 7 years old and older.  Currently, MCAS has 14 senior pets in our facilities.  Adoptions include spay/neuter, microchip and rabies certificate -- a value of over $300 in savings.  Manatee County residents are required to license their new pet for an additional $20.

Senior pets require less maintenance and offer amazing companionship and comfort.  Many of these pets have been in homes for much of their lives and arrive to the shelter due to financial hardship or the death of their owner.  "We encourage our community to consider our senior dogs and cats when searching for a new pet, says Division Chief Sarah Brown of MCAS.  She concludes, "They bring so much love to a family, and, in return, deserve a happy family life in their twilight years."

Beyond November, MCAS has a year-round program called "Seniors for Seniors".  We help pair adopters aged 55 or older with a senior pet for a reduced $10 adoption fee.

The Palmetto Adoption Center and Shelter, located at 305 25th Street West in Palmetto, and Manatee County Cat Town, located at 216 6th Avenue East, Bradenton, are available to visit by appointment only.  You can make your online appointment by going to and filling out an adopter profile and reserving your appointment date.

MCAS is Manatee County’s only open-admission shelter facility, taking in an average of 12 animals per day in 2019.  The mission of MCAS is to maintain public health and safety through the enforcement of laws and ordinances related to animals, to promote responsible pet ownership, promote adoptions, and reduce pet overpopulation.  For the 2019 calendar year, MCAS had a 95% save rate.
