Welcome
With the global COVID-19 pandemic and
economic fallout, it would be easy to write
2020 off as a lost year for progress in
Manatee County. But to do so would be to
overlook not only our community response
to the coronavirus but also the substantial
strides we made in spite of it.
Nearly every aspect of our daily operations
was engaged with the COVID-19 response in
2020. Many of us probably know the direct
role our first responders had responding to
patients, and if there was a silver lining to
last year it’s that we all grew to appreciate
the EMS crews, Department of Health team,
hospital staff, and others on the frontline of
our healthcare system who often put their
lives at risk to serve us. Beyond our stellar
Public Safety team, every department
in county government was involved in
transitioning to serve the community in
very different ways, which you’ll read about
throughout this report.
Despite the unprecedented challenges
before us in 2020, we were able to achieve
real progress and deliver substantial results
planned long before the pandemic.
In fact, we were able to fulfill our 2020
vision of rolling out our Results First initiative
countywide, which we had been slowly
introducing across the organization over the
past few years.

The most profound aspect I’ve noticed so
far about Results First is its impact on people
who practice
it. Simply put,
it builds their
energy and
enthusiasm
and moves
their vision of
achievement
from
individual
success to
the overall
success of the County as a whole. Never has
that been more important than in a year like
2020, when working together for the common
good was imperative.
Our employees have shown that not even a
pandemic can throw us off track when we
have our minds set on results. We rose to
the challenge in 2020, and I know Manatee
County Government will continue to serve
our growing community with grace, talent
and fortitude in 2021.
